BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - A Colorado man is being held on a $1 million bond on charges of DUI causing death and taking away of a motor vehicle.
A Jackson man has been identified as the pedestrian struck in a fatal accident involving a van stolen from the University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Coast Research Lab.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove says 26-year-old Christopher Curry of Jackson died of blunt force trauma Friday at Ocean Springs Hospital.
Police say 36-year-old David Lee Shepperd of Franktown, Colorado, was arrested shortly after the incident.
Police say researchers from the lab were taking water samples at the Lighthouse Pier when a man jumped in their van and tried to drive away. The van was left sitting empty on the sand beach.
