JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Jackson City Council has confirmed longtime officer Lee Vance as police chief.
The city says in a news release that the confirmation vote Tuesday was 5-0.
Mayor Tony Yarber nominated Vance to be chief Aug. 22.
Vance has more than 27 years' experience in law enforcement. He served as interim chief after former Chief Lindsey Horton retired in July.
Vance rose through the ranks in the Jackson Police Department, serving as patrol officer, public information officer, patrol sergeant, police lieutenant and commander.
