JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi state lawmaker is hospitalized in South America after doctors found blood clots in one of his legs.
Republican Sen. Phillip Gandy of Waynesboro says he expects to be discharged from a hospital in Santiago, Chile, by Friday if his condition continues to improve.
The 64-year-old Gandy says Tuesday that doctors have put him on complete bed rest.
Gandy is a Baptist pastor and traveled to Chile for a mission trip. He has been speaking at a church he started there 30 years ago.
