JACKSON, Mississippi — Animal rescue workers in Hinds County say a pit bull dog discovered in a ditch — apparently after having been severely beaten — is showing signs of improvement.
WAPT-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1BuT7Yf ) workers have named the dog "Kenny" — after Hinds County Supervisor Kenneth Stokes, who helped with the rescue.
The dog underwent surgery on New Year's Eve. Elizabeth Jackson, the executive director of the Animal Rescue Fund of Mississippi, said there are signs the dog is regaining feeling in his feet. He had several dislocated vertebrae and suffered paralysis, which veterinarians hope is temporary.
Jackson says Kenny will soon begin rehabilitation and will eventually be up for adoption.
WAPT reports that donations have helped cover the $3,000 bill for Kenny's surgery and care so far.
