JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Century Club Charities, the host organization of the Sanderson Farms Golf Championship, has donated $1.1 million to the Children's Heart Center at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
The donation was announced Tuesday. The money comes from a portion of funds generated by the golf tournament held Nov. 3-9 at the Country Club of Jackson.
UMMC officials say in a news release that the funds will be used to help with a planned facility with 20-24 beds, new operating rooms and an all-new specialized imaging center.
UMMC officials are planning for a new building to be constructed in the space next to the current Batson Children's Hospital. Among other things, it would have surgical suites, a cardiac intensive care unit and an imaging center.
