JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A federal judge tossed out a September court ruling stemming from a 2012 lawsuit that forced the city of Jackson to pay a developer $600,000 after he claimed city officials thwarted his effort to redevelop a downtown building.
Don Hewitt, owner of Advanced Technology Building Solutions who hoped to build a hotel in the former Deposit Guaranty National Bank building across from the Jackson Convention Complex, claimed city leaders sabotaged his redevelopment plans because he criticized the hotel project's bidding process.
The Clarion-Ledger reports (http://on.thec-l.com/1KhsKLT ) Chief U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola tossed out the September verdict and the jury award on Friday, granting the city's motion for judgment notwithstanding the verdict.
