Holland seeking 9th term in Mississippi House - Mississippi News Now

PLANTERSVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Democrat Steve Holland of Plantersville says he's seeking a ninth four-year term in the Mississippi House.

Holland announced his intentions Monday. He represents District 16, which is entirely in Lee County in the northeastern part of the state.

Mississippi voters in 2015 will elect eight statewide officials, and will fill all 122 seats in the state House and all 52 in the state Senate. Candidates' qualifying deadline is Feb. 27.

The 59-year-old Holland says he had health problems in 2014 but is back on his feet. He describes himself as "energized" and "committed to responsible governance."

Holland is a past chairman of the Public Health Committee and the Agriculture Committee. With Republicans as the majority party since January 2012, he has been vice chairman of the Local and Private Committee.
