Jackson family counts their blessings after house explosion - Mississippi News Now

A Jackson family's home was destroyed, along with all of their Christmas gifts, but they say that they are still counting their blessings.

Omario and Deandrea Moore say that at about 1:30 Monday morning they heard a 'big boom' inside their West Hill Drive house.

There is now a gaping hole in the roof and on the inside, all that remains is charred rubble. Miraculously though, no one was injured.

The Moores say they believe a gas leak is responsible.

"When we came out it was just flames all around the house, all in the roof. Then Atmos had came about two weeks ago and they said they put a line in there, they ran a new line, put a new meter but we still smelled gas and it just so happened by the Grace of God, I didn't lock the deadbolt last night. That's how we got out so quick," Omario Moore told us.

"Everything is gone, that's all [the kids] talk about," says his wife. "The xbox mama, my baby said my suspenders gone, everything is gone, but we got each other and that's all that matters."

The Moores say it was an act of God that saved their lives.

Atmos Energy officials say they are working with the Jackson Fire Department to find out what caused the explosion and fire.
