JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

According to Claiborne County Sheriff Marvin Lucas, two people were shot outside Patton's, a club not far from the Alcorn State University campus, around 2:15 a.m. Sunday.


One of the victims was Travis Woods of Adams County, who died from his injuries.


Woods was a former Jackson State football player.


Authorities said the other victim, whose name has not been released, has been treated and released.


Lucas said authorities plan on reviewing surveillance video Sunday in hopes of locating a suspect.


Jackson State University released the following statement: "Jackson State University extends condolences to the family of former student and JSU Tiger football player Travis Woods,” said interim Executive Director of Communications Robert "Rob Jay" Jeuitt. We are praying that his family and friends find comfort during this difficult time. We are deeply saddened by the loss of a fine young man who had his life cut short."

Woods played for the 2013 JSU Tiger football squad.
