JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Provine High School students remembered one of their own who died suddenly last week.

Sunday students and faculty held a candlelight vigil honoring the life of 18-year-old Jasmine Esco at Provine High School.

The teen died at her home March 14th.

It was a shocking loss to loved ones who are still seeking answers about her sudden illness and passing.

Her mother Calesha Esco told us prior to her death, Jasmine passed out at home, was admitted to a local hospital and later experienced breathing problems that she never overcame.

"We're up here to celebrate her right now. It's a celebration and I'm hurting because I lost something that means so much. I was so proud of her because she was everything I wasn't. She was pure," said Calesha Esco, mother of Jasmine.

Mrs. Esco said she will be allowed to receive Jasmine's honorary degree during graduation ceremonies in May.
