2 injured in fight at West Point restaurant - Mississippi News Now

WEST POINT, Miss. (AP) - West Point police say a man received life-threatening injuries in what they're investigating as an aggravated assault at a restaurant.

North Mississippi Medical Center spokeswoman Genie Causey says Ralph Weems IV is in fair condition Sunday.

David Knighten of West Point tells The Associated Press he and Weems went into a restaurant early Saturday and some black patrons told them they were unwelcome because they're white.

Knighten says they left after an argument that brought police, and apparently were followed to another restaurant. He says Weems was kicked after leaving the second restaurant. Knighten says he himself has broken bones in his face.

A police statement posted by WCBI-TV (http://bit.ly/YRDPQj ) says an argument apparently turned physical.

Chief Tim Brinkley didn't immediately return a call Sunday from The AP.
