PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - It's almost four months until Jackson County voters elect their new sheriff, but some candidates' supporters are apparently jumping the gun on campaigning.
Planning Director Michele Coats tells The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/1yuNyXj ) department employees this week pulled some campaign signs for Sheriff Charles Britt that were in violation of the county's zoning rules.
On Monday, Coats said the department received complaints of another sheriff candidate with signs out and they were set to be picked up Tuesday.
Ocean Springs allows signs up to 90 days before an election, but in Pascagoula, Gautier, Moss Point and the rest of Jackson County, they can be put up no more than 60 days before an election.
Candidates have until Sept. 5 to qualify to run for sheriff. The election will be Nov. 4.
