GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - The director of the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System has been reassigned to Jackson.
A VA spokesman tells The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/1pBvQkG ) Anthony L. Dawson will serve a special assignment at the Veterans Integrated Service Networks in Jackson for up to 120 days.
Dawson became director of the Gulf Coast Health Care System on Oct. 1, 2012.
Dawson's reassignment comes after the Veterans Administration came under fire earlier this year for long wait times at its facilities.
A report released in June by the VA said the average wait time for new patients at the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System in Gulfport was about 48 days, while patients at G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson wait an average of 45 days for their first appointment.
