JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - State education officials say "reasonable cause" exists to believe that Clarksdale school employees inflated state standardized test results for students or knew about such cheating.
In a Tuesday announcement, the Mississippi Department of Education said an investigation by testing security firm Caveon is moving into a second phase meant to determine the complete scope of what happened, as well as identify people who took part in cheating and give them a chance to defend themselves.
Superintendent Dennis Dupree says he's unaware of any findings and hasn't spoken with Caveon.
The state began investigating in May after The Clarion-Ledger reported claims that test results were falsified at Clarksdale's Heidelberg Elementary School.
State officials say they're trying to move quickly, but say inquiries could continue into 2015.
