Chase ends with officer-involved shooting - Mississippi News Now


JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A motorist was wounded by a Jackson police officer after a chase that ended in downtown about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.


Police Chief Lee Vance says in a statement that two officers pulled the driver of a Nissan over because the car was missing a headlight. Vance says when officers ran the license plate they discovered the car was stolen.


Vance says they approached the car and the driver pulled a gun on them. Vance says when officers shot the man in the neck.


Police say the suspect drove away and crashed through a fence before stopping in a downtown parking lot. The man was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center where Vance says he was in surgery.


The man's condition is not known. He has not been identified.
