Gift-giving continues, even after Christmas - Mississippi News Now

BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Christmas may be over, but the gift-giving continued for hundreds of Rankin County kids Saturday.

Organizers with the Atlanta-based SOAR Ministries said they had about 2,600 bags filled with presents to give to kids of all ages.

Volunteers handed out the holiday gifts at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Brandon.

The organization brings these bags of gifts to children in Mexico every year, but that wasn't in the cards this Christmas season.

"We were not granted access in a timely manner to be able to take these gifts to Mexico," SOAR Ministries President Keri Duncan said. "So we didn't want all of these gifts and the message we take with us, which is the message of Jesus Christ. We didn't want that to not happen this year, so we looked for a backup plan."

One of the organizers called Jackson State University's president and got in contact with local ministers.

Several of the parents said they hope the ministry comes back and does this again next year.
