JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A winter storm warning is in effect for all of north Mississippi and the central part of the state is under a winter weather advisory. The weather alerts remain in effect until midnight Wednesday.
The National Weather Service says sleet is expected to fall over northern Mississippi Wednesday morning changing to snow later in the day.
The greatest snow accumulations are expected south of Clarksdale to Oxford to Tupelo. Forecasters say 3 to 6 inches of snow could fall over area with higher amounts in some areas.
A wintry mix of rain, freezing rain and some sleet will spread across central Mississippi Wednesday morning.
The weather service says some areas could see snow in the afternoon along the Interstate 20 corridor.
