Federal investigators expect more details next week, maybe as early as Monday, in the case of a man found hanging from a tree in Claiborne County.
"We're gonna continue to look at all the evidence we've collected so far, and we're gonna really cull through that, looking for details that may not have been picked up when evidence was recovered," FBI Jackson Special Agent in Charge Don Alway said. "We're gonna do that to look for additional leads and things that may help us complete the picture that we're painting."
Game wardens found 54-year-old Otis Byrd hanging from a bed sheet about 500 yards from his home Thursday morning.
He had been missing for more than two weeks.
The FBI has not released much information in the case, except positively identifying Byrd as the victim.
Investigators have also not yet released whether it's a suicide or homicide.
Alway said there's still a law enforcement presence in Claiborne County because their work there is not yet done.
"Agents are still in the area. In fact, we've upped our resources with the addition now of our behavior analysis unit. It's consulting with the data that we have, and they're providing potential leads for us based on their experience and expertise."
Byrd was paroled in 2006 after serving more than two decades in prison for murder.
It's unclear if that played a role in his death.
Alway said anyone who may have had contact with Byrd after he disappeared should contact the FBI's Jackson Bureau at 601-948-5000.
