Longtime Jackson-based activist Stephanie Parker-Weaver has died.


Parker-Weaver died Tuesday morning from congestive heart failure, according to a Facebook post.


Parker-Weaver was a Graves' disease and breast cancer survivor. She was in her 50s.


In 2008, she established the Rebirth Foundation to bring awareness about a protein - human epidermal growth factor receptor-2, better known as HER2 - that promotes growth of cancer cells.


She is a former secretary of the Mississippi Southern Christian Leadership Conference and was Special Projects Director during Jackson Mayor Frank Melton's administration.
