JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - More than 1,000 kids are in Jackson working to make sure people in Africa don't go hungry.

Young people came from across the state for "The Gathering" sponsored by the Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist Church.

It is for the relief agency "Stop Hunger Now".

Saturday's activities were filled with worship experiences and live music, service and fun.

Earlier in the day students in grades six through 12 packed boxes filled with meals for hungry families in Africa.

"The students came from everywhere and we spend one weekend just an amazing experience where they come and worship, do different activities and events, mission opportunities things like that," said Mississippi Annual Conference Director of Family and Youth Ministries director Michael Howington.

Their goal was to pack 100,000 meals for the "Stop Hunger Now" campaign.
