PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - Businessman Morris Strickland has resigned as a member of the Singing River Health System Board of Trustees after questions came up about whether he lived in Jackson County.
Strickland lives in Harrison County. He had been appointed to the board twice by supervisor John McKay. He resigned in a letter to hospital board president Mike Heidelberg dated Dec. 30.
Strickland's current term would have expired in 2018, but McKay must now appoint a replacement.
State law says members of the county-owned hospital system board must be "adult legal residents" of the county.
Strickland's resignation comes amid turmoil at SRHS, which is struggling with financial woes that has led to legal challenges on its plan to end its defined benefit pension plan.
