JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - That shrimp po' boy in Pascagoula or that hotel room in Houston will cost a bit extra because of local tourism taxes that Mississippi legislators approved for those cities - as they did for many other communities.

Tourism taxes were among the many issues that legislators approved this year as "local and private" bills. Unlike general bills that affect the whole state, each local and private bill affects only one community.

This year, for example, legislators voted to let Monroe County establish a beautification committee.

They said Tallahatchie County can help the city of Charleston build a recreation center.

They voted to let Lauderdale County pay for a jail ministry program from money that inmates, or their families, pay to use a telephone service.
