Monday began the 2nd day of training for recruits who can look forward to 12 weeks of intense preparation before joining the Jackson Police Department.
The force is always looking for more qualified men and women to join JPD to help protect the streets of Jackson.
The ultimate goal is to have at least 500 officers patrolling the city.
Right now there are 413 officers. 21 recruits are apart of this incoming class, so even if all of these men and women make it through the academy there's still room for a lot more.
Commander Herman Horton says, "I really encourage anyone that is interested in becoming a law enforcement officer here with the City of Jackson to come and be prepared, as well as those that want to come to our training academy from other agencies because, as I speak, we have an individual here from Jackson State University, as well as Drew, Mississippi, who are going through our academy so we're open to anyone who wants to send folks to our academy."
If anyone is interested in learning more about what it takes to join the Jackson Police Department, you can call the training academy at 601-960-1378. The academy is located at 3000 Saint Charles Street in Jackson.
